 Romans 11:18

Remember you don’t support the root, but the root supports you

Does Jesus evaluate root systems, let’s look at Mark 11:20, do you recall the parable of the withered fig tree? In this parable, Jesus uses it as critical teaching of lessons of faith and prayer. God is our source for power and miracles and the object in which we direct our worship.  What I found most interesting as I re-read this chapter is that this parable sandwiches the account of the cleansing of the temple, namely the moneychangers. Jesus stating His House is a House of Prayer, but as he enters, He finds a den of robbers. We can learn from the withered fig tree as its representation of his house. Let me explain; there’s lots of action, repents the green and leafy leaves are seen from afar yet can also be seen as showy and disorderly, no true righteousness and certainly not fruit-bearing. The attention to this parable would indicate it’s noteworthy to evaluate the root system, and Jesus is looking for fruit!

If this seems harsh, or as a rebuke, we mustn’t forget the words of Jesus evaluating the seven churches found in the last book of the Bible, Revelation chapters 2&3.

Root Check-Up

Matthew 13 – Where has the seed fallen?

This parable of the sower and of the seeds planted, into the hearts and minds, serving as a pathway to our destiny. The essential fortifying factor for good soil described in this parable is hearing and seeing which leads to crop bearing of fruit and gaining understanding.

Thrones represent worries and distractions, which chokes the word out by world deceitfulness of riches.

Wayside is the birds of the air devoured them before they can be planted or take root.

Stony Places, not much earth, the sun-scorched the seed, withered away no root.

Persecution and tribulation arise because of the word, by and by he is offended.

We also read testing will cause a falling away, found in Luke 8:13

We learn a bitterroot will defile many; I believe this is a warning, because faith comes by hearing, if we’re listening to a person express their bitterness, it can and will affect us. Ask for the discernment in how to respond and know the bridge of grace and love you have built-in that person’s life to respond accordingly.

Forgiveness is also mentioned in Mark 11, as Jesus taught on faith and prayer in verse 25 He includes this important statement: “And whenever you stand praying if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

Rooted and Built-up established in the faith.

Colossians 2:6-10

As you, therefore, have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

If you find you’re in need, I encourage you to offer a sincere prayer of repentance to your Heavenly Father, trust He will re-till the soil of your heart. He will genuinely respond and help you to turn your heart to become fruit-bearing and flourishing.
