Thanksgiving

And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

— Philippians 1

I’ve been pondering love as John and I were preparing to celebrated our anniversary. As I was attempting to fathom God’s lavished love, and how He freely offers this love, I found myself thanking Him! During this same time, I happened to come across an old journal entry I made a few years back. I recall writing this entry after hearing Ephesians 3:17-19 “…being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height – to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” Soon after, I began to sing a worship song on the same verse. As I was singing “how deep/how wide” is the love of God, I had a gentle and sudden unction from the Holy Spirit, as if to nudge me saying, “so, are you asking Me?” Immediately I knew He wanted to answer the very question I was singing, and I certainly didn’t want to miss it. I rushed to find pen & paper in order to capture His reply. We know the heart-care of God that when he speaks to one sheep, He often times will speak the same encouraging words to another. When you see my name below you can [insert your name].

Lord, how deep is your love?
My love has gone willingly to the depths of the earth, swallowed up by earth, a place you do not know or have known, a place in which I would not send, require or hope for you to ever know. I went before you so you wouldn’t have to – Yes, I paid the debt, [Debbie] I love you, I love you, I love you – more then you could ever comprehend this side of eternity – – – I am for you, I am with you, now and forever more! Take my yoke and follow after Me, as you serve, lead and love in My Name.

How high is your love, Lord?
It’s the Highest Love it reaches to the Highest Heaven. Its the most wonder-full, glorious, radiant love that could ever be experienced. When you come to Me, you are able to reach this place with Me. Then you carry it on your face, heart, and hands as I lead your steps to bring an expression of the most Holy Love to earth and to those who yet long to reach the highest heaven.

You know of this place! You know, [Debbie], full well how to reach and touch my heart. You fill me when you come to me, even in your desperation and deepest need – you honor My Name, when you cast your cares upon me – – –

I love my time with you, I enjoy how you hide away with me. You hide My word, My ways, your plans, and longings – even your plans of when you will come and you bring all things before Me.

I am watchful over you – My eye, My heart, My ways to protect and preserve you – you are mine, you are mine, you are mine.

You have learned of Me – you truly love Me!
I delight in the process in which you seek to please Me and are un-moveable in your devotion to Me.

True Love

The love of the Lord

—Hosea 3:1

Believer, look back through all thine experience, and think of the way whereby the Lord thy God has led thee in the wilderness, and how He hath fed and clothed thee every day—how He hath borne with thine ill manners—how He hath put up with all thy murmurings, and all thy longings after the flesh‐pots of Egypt—how He has opened the rock to supply thee, and fed thee with manna that came down from heaven.

Think of how His grace has been sufficient for thee in all thy troubles—how His blood has been a pardon to thee in all thy sins—how His rod and His staff have comforted thee. When thou hast thus looked back upon the love of the Lord, then let faith survey His love in the future, for remember that Christ’s covenant and blood have something more in them than the past.

He who has loved thee and pardoned thee, shall never cease to love and pardon.

He is Alpha, and He shall be Omega also: He is first, and He shall be last. Therefore, bethink thee, when thou shalt pass through the valley of the shadow of death, thou needest fear no evil, for He is with thee. When thou shalt stand in the cold floods of Jordan, thou needest not fear, for death cannot separate thee from His love; and when thou shalt come into the mysteries of eternity thou needest not tremble, “For I am persuaded, that neither death; nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Now, soul, is not thy love refreshed? Does not this make thee love Jesus? Doth not a flight through illimitable plains of the ether of love inflame thy heart and compel thee to delight thyself in the Lord thy God?

Surely as we meditate on “the love of the Lord,” our hearts burn within us, and we long to love Him more.
